An ASN gateway is how internal communication nodes within a business, for example connect to the global internet at one common point, using an ASN number. ASN numbers and gateways help regional internet regulators to deal with the huge amount of nodes now communicating with each other around the world. Tying several IP addresses to one location the BGP makes it easier for regulators to keep track of internet users.

Autonomous System Number ASN is a globally unique identifier that defines a group of one or more IP prefixes run by one or more network operators that maintain a single, clearly-defined routing policy. These groups of IP prefixes are known as autonomous systems. The ASN allows the autonomous systems to exchange routing information with other autonomous systems.
