This could be what is being described to me as vinyl as that contractor insisted it could be painted and that he only uses high quality stuff.

So I'm thinking I should be giving him more credit now because he sounded positive and I kept insisting that I didn't think vinyl could be painted. I'm liking the idea of the cement board though.
